Following a number of complaints, a NSW Fair Trading officer visited the Blakehurst Motor Inn premises in July. No breaches of the Australian Consumer Law were detected in terms of engaging in false or misleading advertising. Fair Trading understands the motel is rated one and half stars and Fair Trading is not aware of any representations by management suggesting the motel is anything other than budget accommodation. However, consumers still have the right to expect reasonable service delivered with due skill and care when booking any accommodation. In the case of a one and a half star hotel, consumers have the right (in accordance with the Consumer Guarantee provisions in the Australian Consumer Law) to expect basic services such as clean sheets and working appliances (such as televisions and electric jugs). Matters of hygiene and safety are issues for the Department of Health and the local council.
