Did you know? (busting the food safety myths) announced as the theme of Australian Food Safety Week 2015
The theme for this year’s Australian Food Safety Week, to be held 8 to 15 November 2015, will be ‘Did you know? (busting the food safety myths)’.
When announcing the theme Food Safety Information Council Chair, Rachelle Williams, said the strength of Australian Food Safety Week was the grassroots involvement.
‘It’s great to see local councils, libraries and schools get involved in Food Safety Week. With an estimated 4.1 million cases of food poisoning each year it is a serious issue something that affects all of the Australian Community.
‘There are a lot of myths out there about what causes food poisoning, so during the Week we will be releasing the latest consumer research about what Australians understand about food safety plus some simple tips to help people reduce their risk of getting sick.
‘A mail out of fridge thermometers, posters, brochures and DVDs is currently underway, full details of how to order are available on the FSIC website.
‘A community package of a shell media release to use for your local event, and an online quiz will be available from mid-October, ‘ Ms Williams concluded.
Australian Food Safety Week is the major activity of the Food Safety Information Council, Australia’s leading disseminator of community targeted food safety information and a health promotion charity.
