Mapping Australia: Immunisation rates for children 2014-15
All Australian children must receive staged immunisations before they turn 1, 2 and 5 years of age under current medical guidelines. Australia’s chief medical officers agree immunisation rates fall short and need improvement and in late 2014 created an aspirational target of fully immunising 95 per cent of all children.
Currently Australian kids are not reaching these immunisation targets, but rates are improving in many places.
- In outback north and east in South Australia the percentage of 1-year-old fully immunised children rose from 85 per cent to 93 per cent.
- Surfers Paradise in Queensland increased the percentage of 1-year-old fully immunised children from 84 per cent to 90 per cent.
- In some parts of eastern Sydney including Bondi and Double Bay the percentage of 1-year-old fully immunised children increased from 86 per cent to 91 per cent .
