NSW weather: Fire bans declared as temperatures soar above 40C

1214728-3x2-460x307Soaring temperatures have hit New South Wales, with the mercury climbing above 40 degrees Celsius in part of western Sydney and regional centres.

At 3:40pm the temperature reached 41.7C at Penrith, 40.1C at Holsworthy and 40C at Bankstown.

Regional communities also experienced temperatures above 40C.

It was 41C at Condobolin Airport at 3:30pm, 40.3C at Cobar and Bourke, 40.1C at Cowra and 40C at Forbes.

Temperatures also climbed into the high 30s in several other areas around the state.
