Gastroenteritis spike prompts NSW Health public warning

NSW healthA spike in serious gastroenteritis cases across NSW has prompted health authorities to issue a public warning.

Over 1600 people have attended NSW emergency departments with gastro in the past week, a 14 per cent rise on the usual number this time of year.

More than 400 of these patients were admitted to hospital, also more than expected, NSW Health reported on Thursday.

Across the state 56 gastro outbreaks in nursing homes, child care centres and hospitals have been reported since the start of June.
