One dead in Victorian listeria food poisoning surge
ONE person is dead and at least six others taken to hospital during an unexplained surge in food poisoning cases leading up to Christmas.
A health alert was issued to all Victorian doctors this afternoon to be on the lookout for high-risk patients with symptoms of listeria, which poses a life-threatening danger for unborn children, babies, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.
With a scorching Christmas approaching, health authorities are also issuing a wider warning to those preparing festive feasts to take extra precautions to guard against foodborne illnesses.
