Victoria to offer free meningococcal vaccine to teenagers after increase in cases
Victorian high school students will be offered free vaccines against the potentially deadly meningococcal W disease after a significant spike in cases last year.
The State Government has announced a $7 million immunisation program for school students aged between 15 and 19.
They will be offered a free vaccination in term two this year after the number of cases almost tripled from 17 diagnoses in 2015 to 48 diagnoses last year.
Three people have died from the strain over the past two years.
