When it comes to noise, nothing drives Brisbane residents barking mad quite like animals.

Barking dogs, crowing roosters and screeching cats top the list when it comes to complaints to Brisbane City Council (BCC) for noise, with 7,245 complaints in the past financial year.

That was up from 6,619 complaints in 2015/16.

A distant runner-up was builders working out of hours, with a mere 1,661 complaints in 2016/17, down from the 2,010 received the previous financial year.

Brisbane Lifestyle and Community Services chairman Matthew Bourke said this past financial year council received on average of more than 29 complaints about noise each day.
